New York based drummer Philippe Lemm, born and raised in Amsterdam, has quickly become one of the most versatile and expressive drummers in both Europe and the NYC area. At the age of 19 he was admitted at The Amsterdam Conservatory.
In his second year at the conservatory Philippe started touring internationally with jazz trumpeter Saskia Laroo as well as leading his own group Wazabe Philippe booked 7 tours in total throughout Europe. At the end of his studies in Amsterdam Philippe was extensively playing with renowned Dutch jazz musicians like; Karel Boehlee (Toots Thielemans), Jorg Kaaij (Jazz Orchestra of the Concert Gebouw) and Peter Tiehuis (Metropole Orchestra).
In 2009 he started his second group as a leader: Philippe Lemm Group where he released 2 records with and toured extensively within Europe. He moved to New York in 2011 to pursue a master’s degree at the Manhattan School of Music and started the Philippe Lemm Trio with whom he won the the prestigious International B-Jazz competition in 2015. The trio has released three albums and toured all over Europe and the U.S. In 2013 Philippe was Head Of The Drum Department at True School of Music in Mumbai, India and toured with Bollywood star Shilpa Rao. Besides the trio he plays with artists such as Ajoyo, Grace Kelly, John Stetch and Guy Mintus. Philippe has recently received a JUNO nomination (Canadian GRAMMYS) for his work on the album Black Sea by pianist John Stetch. Philippe is an adjunct faculty drum teacher for Columbia University in New York.
